“Yeah, they’ve fucked up an entire generation.” Imran tells me. We’re chatting online, but I’d like to believe he was smoking a roll of weed and leaning back against the leg of his bed without a shirt on as he typed it to me. “The irony of your realization is that the reason you’re smart enough to think that way is your family background, its comfort a by-product of cronyism.” I reply.
“Heh” he said, and smokes another joint (I’d like to believe).
I’m not going to touch on the topic of whether or not a land can belong to a race. My understanding of whether or not ‘race’ matters has far exceeded this level that it’s offensive to me to even talk about it. Hell, the idea ‘possession of property’ itself is debatable, even if you’re earned it. If the mainstream idea of (labour + unclaimed material =ownership) is debunked by asking whether someone owns the sea just by doing something to it, then asking whether people as a race have a right to land is so stupid a question you’d have to have the intention of fucking with my mood.
My peeve is not with Malays, it’s not with Muslims. It is merely coincidental that these people form the majority of our country’s demographic that the ruling coalition has decided to brainwash a specific community (ie Malays) into being bigots. The issue of tolerance comes to mind: During a Chinese New Year open house organized by the Malaysian Student Society of Manchester (MSSM), the festivities began with a prayer. The non-muslims started rolling their eyes, and an awkward silence among them weighed in at that moment. The feeling of kindred just before vanishes, and the invisible wall separating us materializes. I personally didn’t mind the prayers, but an observation of the silent reactions wasn’t surprising.
The right to respect is a funny thing to claim. No one has a right to respect. You appreciate tolerance. Tolerance, not in the way Bumiputera rights advocates use it, that “We tolerate you invading our land, our commerce, our heritage”. Tolerance is not the dirty word that these idiots use it as. Tolerance is not the tolerance of an annoying thing. It is an understanding. It is, to a certain extent, caring. I do not eat in front of Muslims when they fast for the same reason that I don’t speed my car down the road when I know children are playing. I drink in front of Muslims here in the UK, but that’s because they’re in the pub with me as well. Even then, even in a pub, I asked them first whether it was alright (which I had no duty to). I do it because I am friendly.
The reason I felt like venting this moot point about the majority (it seems funny to have to use the politically correct caveat “majority”. If we had to put that behind every label to be accurate and not fall for the generality trap we’d be out of breath) of a race’s bigotry is because there have been complaints recently about alcohol being served in a concert organized by the Malaysian Students’ Society of Manchester. The president has denied this, and I believe him, because he is quite worrisome of being politically correct, even if a little more than I’d like.
Even if alcohol was served; so what? Welcome to the United fucking Kingdom.

Grab a pint.

these people don’t understand the meaning of tolerance.
they use the term but for a different meaning. some of them even quoted a speech in the 60s in order to instill fear in the minds of the people.
btw, great blog!
